Baby steps

November 3rd, 2010 at 07:12 pm

I am now eligible for my companies 401K plan, so I signed up this month to start contributing. I have started off with a 10% contribution and will get the full 4% match offered by my employee. We have not made any contributions to retirement in a year, so we need to catch up as much as possible. I will monitor our finances closely the next few months to see if we can up our contributions.

Both my husband and I received our first credit cards this month and will start building credit history finally.

Please be careful with those credit cards and not get in over your head. Congrats on your 401K contributions.

Wow you have been gone for a while. Welcome back! Good for you on the 401K. My OD just switched jobs and I keep reminding her to sign up for her 401K as soon as she is eligible.

Congratulations on being able to take that step with the 401k, and I hope it leads to great things over time. I echo the above sentiments -- be wise and incredibly careful with those credit cards, so you have some insurance that you don't undermine your other progress! Good luck...

Your financial situation should be in accordance with the other contributions in various areas. The costs directly depend on the deposits.
